School Year, 2004-2005. S. K. is in the 5th grade academically gifted class. His teachers are outstanding and keep the students busy learning and challenging themselves. He is a member of the school's Safety Patrol and recently worked in the School Store. His class has just begun their monthly visits to Tomoka State Park where they have plots of land to monitor and can conduct science and nature studies.
Wes is in the 3rd grade academically gifted class. He continues to find P.E. and recess as his favorite subjects, followed by science. His class, along with the entire school, is participating in "Caring through Sharing" -- a program which provides food and necessities to needy families in the area. He is proud to have a piece of art framed and on display in the Media Center for the school year.
Karen has also returned to Pine Trail Elementary, as a part-time teacher's aide. She works in a 1st grade classroom and in the 5th grade academically gifted classroom (S. K.'s class!) She also volunteers for each classroom and in the school's Media Center.
Hurricane Season, 2004. We were visited by Charley, Frances, and Jeanne this hurricane season. We were very glad to see Ivan visit the panhandle of Florida, and miss us. We were without power for 2 days, 1&1/2 days, and 0 days with each respective storm. Karen and the boys kept cool by taking rides in the car around the neighborhood. We were very fortunate to not receive any damage to our home and only minor damage in the yard. Although, we did have one casualty -- Wes' computer. The brown-outs and surges with the last storm "cooked" his computer.
